Diodes Incorporated (Diodes Incorporated) introduced AP3125 pulse width modulation (PWM) controllers, designed to improve efficiency and eliminate load loss. The AP3125 current mode device is optimized for off-line AC-DC converter use in portable products, consumer electronics and home appliances.

The new controller offers three modes of operation to improve performance. In normal mode, the device's switching frequency is 65kHz or 100kHz. In the case of moderate loads, these controllers enter the green mode and perform frequency foldback to rewind the frequency and increase the average efficiency. In the case of no-load or ultra-light loads, the device operates in pulse mode to minimize standby power.

The AP3125 controller is available in a SOT26 package with a switching frequency setting as low as 20kHz to minimize system audible noise. Both the normal and green modes have a frequency jitter function that effectively reduces electromagnetic interference.

The new controller enhances internal slope compensation to help simplify feedback loop design and achieve more stable peak current control over a wide input voltage range and load. In addition, the internal linear compensation of the AP3125 Series ensures that the output power limit is consistent throughout the linear voltage range.

To improve system reliability, the new product integrates a range of protection features that are better than the same type of device, including internal overtemperature protection and fast overcurrent protection, as well as overvoltage and overload protection. The AP3125B and AP3125HB also integrate power-down and linear overvoltage protection, which can be easily configured with several resistor dividers.
