This week, the world’s first 210-degree field of view VR headset, jointly created by Starbreeze, Acer Acer and StarVR Team, finally officially shipped. This first batch of head-to-head slogans is marching towards the major IMAX theaters and is ready to beat consumers' hearts with an unparalleled immersive experience.
Previously, some analysts stated that Starbreeze's move to provide high-profile, high-angle-of-view StarVR heads-up to the top-level viewing experience provider IMAX was an important part of the new "preset" entertainment cooperation between the two parties.
Today, this formerly named InfinitEye has changed its face and made a new identity with StarVR, and has been aggressively moving towards the IMAX Theatre in mass production.
“The cooperation with the entertainment industry star IMAX has excited us. This marks our further progress in our goal of bringing VR to the world.†said Jason Chen (Chen Junsheng), Acer’s president and CEO. “The combination of StarVR and IMAX will shape The best-ever VR experience ever made, and this time the strong alliance also means the establishment of an ecosystem that includes hardware vendors, game developers, theater companies, filmmakers, and related practitioners."
Previously, Acer Acer investment of 9 million US dollars to promote the development and manufacturing of StarVR head display, the two sides subsequently announced the establishment of a cooperative relationship. Starbreeze chief technology officer Emmanuel Marquez (Emanuel Marquez) said in an interview that Acer made a lot of comments on the development of StarVR head-mounted display - including whole house tracking technology, eye tracking technology, etc. - although currently We are still not sure which of these proposals are reflected in this first batch of headlines.
The StarVR with dual 2160x1200 display heads sits near a violent 5K resolution, while also placing a pair of substantial Fresnel lenses in front of a slightly tilted dual screen. Starbreeze claimed that the optical structure "allows viewers to experience a superior graphical experience from a natural perspective."
StarVR's field of view is the most brilliant part of the head - 210 degrees, which is almost equal to the natural angle of view of the human eye. You should know that the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift's field of view are both less than 100 degrees in the same period. Of course, from the perspective of improving immersiveness, such a large angle of view may not help much; however, StarVR, which was exhibited at the E3 last year, has already surprised many people with this feature.
In addition to its cooperation with IMAX, StarVR Heads will also jointly launch a new immersive entertainment experience developed with Starbreeze. "John Wick VR" ("Rapid VR") and a series of the latest VR movies will be included for the platform - these films may be shot by IMAX's recently announced Google Jump panorama camera.
However, the vast majority of consumers may be disappointed this time. Starbreeze’s chief technology officer said in an interview that “at the moment we are only focusing on opening up the enterprise market,†the implication is that the company has no plans to push Star VR to the consumer market.
