Tokyo-Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) today announced the launch of a new addition to the company's broad portfolio of solutions for the automotive market. The TC358791XBG automotive companion chip was designed to enable high-end multimedia (audio, video) and camera connectivity for next-generation entertainment information applications for connected cars.
Sample shipments will start immediately, and volume production is scheduled to start in March 2015.
The new chip supports the latest automotive Gigabit Ethernet AVB standards for a wide range of applications, such as front, rear and surround cameras, digital audio, and high resolution for car audio and rear seat entertainment systems. Rate video content. In addition, with its USB 3.0, MIPI® CSI-2 and DSI connectivity for audio and video, the TC358791XBG seamlessly accesses and supports many advanced automotive application processors on the market and will support the Automotive Electronics Council (AutomoTIve). Electronics Council's reliability specification AEC-Q10 (Level 3).
The TC358791XBG can help reduce time-to-market for automotive entertainment information systems while reducing overall system bill of materials costs. The TC358791XBG divides a video input into two images and simultaneously drives two high-resolution, low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) digital displays. Specific examples include heads up displays, dashboards, and parking assist vision systems. The chip also transmits high-resolution audio and video data from the host processor to multiple displays or other electronic control units in the car, and it is equipped with a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI®) 1.4 receiver interface for HDMI®- The device is connected to the application processor.
The companion chip is available in an FBGA257 15mm x 15mm package with a ball pitch of 0.8mm. Other features include a differential CVBS (composite) interface for analog composite video sources, support for early reversing camera viewing (CVBS to LVDS), and the ability to deliver packetized IQ audio tuner data to the host via USB.
