Sony Patent Exposure Will Significantly Improve PSVR Tracking Performance from Baidu VR

With the rapid development of the game industry, more and more games can read data such as controllers, mobile phones, head-mounted displays, etc., to allow players to better interact with the game. The Sony PSVR captures the player's position, direction and movement through the PlayStation Camera. However, PSVR had previously suffered a lot of players because of problems tracked by PlayStation Camera. A recently published patent shows that the Sony PSVR may be able to implement tracking functions through multiple MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) projectors in the future.

According to a patent description entitled "System and Method for Tracking the Position of Photoelectric Sensors of Head Mounted Displays or Controllers Using Multiple MEMS Projectors," the working principle of the system is roughly that multiple MEMS projectors generate different laser beams. Then, multiple MEMS mirrors modulate different light beams to project in different modes. After the light sensor detects the light beam, the system calculates the time required for the different light beams to reach the light sensor to determine the position of the light sensor. The MEMS mirrors in the system are based on the Lissajous pattern and raster scan patterns.

The tracking performance of this patent on PSVR is undoubtedly an improvement, but Sony has not disclosed the relevant plan for the time being. However, Masayasu Ito, senior vice president of Sony Entertainment, previously stated that PSVR may support personal computers in the future. Will the patent be prepared to support the PC? Anyway, I believe there will be an exact answer in the future.
