HTC's 2017 revenue totaled US$2.1 billion, a 20% decrease from 2016 year-on-year
2017 is not a smooth year for HTC, especially in the financial area. Taiwanese company HTC ended at a lower level in 2017. December's revenue was NT$4.02 billion, or US$136 million. Intense competition and continuous introduction of high-end equipment have caused HTC to lose millions of dollars in 2017. HTC’s revenue in December 2017 was NT$4.02 billion, a decrease of 37% from December 2016.
The number of smartphones released by HTC in 2017 is even smaller, and devices launched last year are not able to occupy a place in the market. For example, although HTC U11 has been reliably evaluated, it has faced failure in sales. The Taiwanese company is also continuing to sell its HTC Vive VR helmets.
HTC confirmed in December last year that it will sell the R&D department of "Pixel and related equipment" to Google for $1.1 billion. In order to develop the next Pixel device and VR product, the company granted Google access to its intellectual property and some hardware teams. This transaction may allow HTC to return to the US market.
