In March this year, there were news reports that Ni Bai, a senior scientist at the original Baidu Deep Learning Institute and the leader of the Baidu driverless car team, had joined LeTV from Baidu in December last year and was responsible for autopilot related projects.
At the CCF-GAIR summit held at Lei Feng.com recently, Ni Kai described the approximate R&D content of LeTV, which is divided into five sections for automatic driving:
The first is human-computer interaction because we think that human-computer interaction is a very important piece of a mature product as a cold technology, so it is listed first.
The second piece is the sensor. The sensor may be known to everyone. Different manufacturers have already done the work of the sensor, so we may be more in line with these manufacturers in this work.
Develop us in third and fourth place, perceive and plan such technologies, because we need to handle this information after we get the sensor, we need to identify and track the surrounding environment and dynamic static objects, including We need to make plans for the corresponding vehicle trajectory and behavior based on the current driving goals.
The last part is also the direction of our main force. In the future, as an autonomous technology, it can be applied to different vehicles. It is like you buy a laser or camera. It certainly will apply to different vehicles, so we hope that our Technology is not only contained in our own car, we also want to export to other partners, so our last one is more of a combination of technology with the vehicle.
In order to build cars, LeTV invited a number of heavyweights in the automotive industry, in addition to Ni Kai, including former vice president of SAIC, former general manager of Shanghai General Motors Ding Lei; original production director of FAW-Volkswagen FRANK STERZER; GAC Toyota former deputy general manager Gao Jingshen Infiniti’s former Asia Pacific general manager Lu Zhengyu and others. Ni Kai is the only non-traditional automobile industry among these people. He is more concerned with technology research in the field of artificial intelligence. What kind of work did he do during the six months of joining LeTV?
After the meeting, Ni Kai said in an interview with Lei Fengwang (searching for the "Lei Feng Net" public number) that his work in LeTV mainly focused on artificial intelligence, not just autopilot projects, but in LeTV's products. Finding all possibilities combined with artificial intelligence, but it is currently centered on automated driving projects.
"Artificial intelligence is a big category, including deep learning and machine vision. For example, we need to understand some of the pedestrian's actions in the car. In front of the TV, we also want to understand some of the states of people in front of the TV, including the elderly. As a child, such machine vision-based understanding of the human condition of the environment is a relatively common technology, and then, like we are also doing AR work, it can have a very strong connection with the car's high-precision positioning. So we set up an artificial intelligence research institute and we hope to increase our investment in artificial intelligence, not only to benefit from automated driving, but also other businesses."
Letv's entire car plan, also known as the SEE plan, is an ecological plan for a super electric car. Ni Kai said that artificial intelligence has played a huge role in autopilot. For this reason LeEco and its partner Faraday and Future have established a FF Le Future laboratory, mainly to study artificial intelligence technology, not only for autopilot technology, but also For LeTV to serve other ecosystems, including television, mobile phones, sports and other ecological services. Ni Kai revealed that apart from the R&D center in Silicon Valley in the United States, Beijing will also have an R&D center.
Regarding the automatic driving technology, SAE (American Society of Automotive Engineers) classifies it into 0 to 5 total six levels, 0 being traditional driving; 1 and 2 being driving assistance; 3, 4, and 5 being autopilot systems. On April 20th this year, LeTV’s new product launching conference was held in Beijing with the theme of “no breaks, no ecologyâ€. After 28 months, LeSEE, the first prototype of LeTV, debuted. On August 10th, the Zhejiang Provincial Government and LeSport held a press conference in Hangzhou to announce that the two sides have officially started their eco-cooperation projects in the LeTV Super-Eco Ecological Experience Zone, the Smart Auto Industry Fund, and Internet Finance. Ni Kai said that LeTV will invest 20 billion yuan in the plan of the automotive eco-town. The target annual output is 200,000 in the first stage and 400,000 in the second stage. The second stage is a single-seater sports car that LeTV’s partner Faraday and Future has shown.
·Basic precautions
