Wire and cable industry: When is the current state of confusion?

At present, there are more than 7,000 cable manufacturers in China, with an annual output value of about 700 billion yuan, and the cable output ranks first in the world. Because entry barriers are not high, most companies produce ordinary products and competition is fierce. Competition has created a "big but not strong, big and chaotic" phenomenon in the wire and cable industry. The "big" of the wire and cable industry is reflected in the fact that it occupies 1/4 of the output value of the electrical industry in China and is called the "artery" and "nervous" of the national economy. It is a necessary basic product in the future electrification and information society. Numerous manufacturers are mixed, resulting in many shoddy and mixed phenomenon. In recent years, quality inspection centers have been developing everywhere, and Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, and other places have already built or already established quality inspection centers. However, despite the fact that there are so many wire and cable quality inspection centers, they are inspected. There is no problem with the quality of the local cable.

Problem cables often appear. Look at the industry news and it is not difficult to find current issues with cable exposure news. In the fourth quarter of 2010, the Liaoning Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce commissioned the Liaoning Province Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute to carry out quality supervision and random inspections on wires and cables, engine coolant, lubricating oil, heating radiators and brake fluids in some cities in the province. Among them, the quality of wire and cable products was worrisome and the failure rate was 74.1%. In the first quarter of this year, the Anhui Trade and Industry Bureau recently reported the quality monitoring of wires and cables. This time, a total of 40 sets of wire and cable of 24 distribution units in the four cities of Hefei, Chaohu, Fuyang, and Cangzhou were investigated, with 24 combinations. The pass rate was 60%. And these can be said politely, just the tip of the iceberg.

Mr. Wu Changshun, director of the National Wire and Cable Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, said at the German TUV and TICW wire and cable certification seminar held in Dongguan, Guangdong Province that “the development of domestic wire and cable has no leader”. This is a thought-provoking sentence. What a big industry hasn't condensed, and how can we blame him for chaos? When will the “leader” stand up and lead the industry to standardization and become stronger and stronger?

From the perspective of China’s rapid economic development and historical growth, in recent years, China’s cable demand has increased by 15% per year, which means that for every 7% increase in the GDP of the national economy, there is a 15% increase in cable. The strong allure of the Chinese market has also attracted the attention of the world. However, there are few manufacturers of power cable equipment on the domestic scale, and they are only manufacturing on the basis of traditional wire and cable production equipment. There are few manufacturers who have re-developed the advanced design and processing technology of imported equipment. There are also many special wire and cable materials that are imported. Due to the factors of upstream products and production equipment of wire and cable, breakthroughs in the specific fields of China's wire and cable industry have become bottlenecks.

It is hoped that the relevant departments will be able to strictly supervise and expose companies that have done too much to ensure a more standardized market environment.
