Fairchild Semiconductor introduces the industry's only video filter, the FMS6403, which is available in standard definition (SD), progressive scan (PS) or high definition (HD) standards, and offers three levels of synchronization and a side Road mode to allow 1080p and HDTV signals to pass. In addition to being the most highly integrated video filter on the market, the FMS6403 is the smallest in size due to its TSSOP package. The device features a true 2:1 multiplexed input for YpbPr or RGB inputs, and a 3-channel, 6th-order filter with an optional cutoff frequency of 30 MHz, 15 MHz or 8 MHz to match all video formats worldwide. The FMS6403 provides designers with a space-saving, single-chip filtering solution for full-line video applications including DVD players, set-top boxes, and high definition television (HDTV).
The FMS6403 is available in two applications. The most common is used as an anti-aliasing filter to remove high frequency noise prior to A/D conversion in applications such as high definition television, media center and home theater receivers. The FMS6403 can also be used as a reconstruction filter to remove high frequency clutter introduced by HD/SD set-top boxes and devices such as DVD players and recorders during D/A conversion. With this capability, designers can use a single small device to achieve high image quality.
