CSR combines audio and connection technologies to promote various connected car applications

CSR has announced the launch of CSRC9300 ™, the first in-vehicle chip that combines Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth v4.0 connection technology and audio capabilities. This complete solution enables car manufacturers to implement a variety of future-oriented Internet of Vehicle applications, such as Miracast with 5GHz frequency, and keyless entry with Bluetooth v4.0 technology. The chip was first unveiled at the 65th CSR booth of the TelemaTIcs Detroit 2013 (TelemaTIcs Detroit 2013) held from June 5 to June 6.

Thomas Carmody, CSR ’s Connected Business Marketing Director, said: “Bluetooth is an important priority technology; at the same time, the application of automotive Wi-Fi technology is also increasing. With the CSRC9300, CSR is in a leading position in this field and can help Our customers easily build future-oriented connected cars. The chip we launched this time integrates CSR's best automotive-grade Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0 and audio technology to provide strong support for this growing market , And can help customers achieve product differentiation. "

The solution provides:

· A new generation of Wi-Fi for high-bandwidth applications

· Bluetooth® v4.0 Smart Ready for low power connection ecosystem

· Supplementary audio functions, including aptX for high-fidelity wireless streaming

The CSRC9300 can achieve the next-generation 5GHz Wi-Fi connection that complies with the 802.11a standard, and will surely spawn a large number of new in-vehicle applications, including in-vehicle video streaming. Designers can migrate applications with higher bandwidth requirements to the 5GHz frequency to avoid car congestion at the 2.4GHz frequency, which is also used for Bluetooth and Bluetooth® Smart Ready communications. The chip supports a variety of the latest Wi-Fi functions, including Wi-Fi Direct and its various services, enabling a more seamless Wi-Fi connection between cars and the latest smartphones on the market.

The CSRC9300 also supports Bluetooth v4.0, enabling applications previously limited by power consumption, size, and complexity of wireless standards to achieve low-power connections and basic data transmission. After incorporating Bluetooth v4.0 technology, the chip can realize applications such as distance detection and keyless entry. Consumers can also securely connect to cars and obtain information such as door lock opening / closing status via Bluetooth® Smart Ready-enabled smartphones.

In addition, CSRC9300 also includes various audio offload functions, such as on-chip support for broadband voice codec processing functions, and advanced audio distribution model (A2DP) decoding functions, which can achieve high-fidelity wireless audio. The chip also contains CSR's acclaimed aptX audio codec, which enables consumers to play CD-quality audio streams on aptX-capable smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S4.

CSR integrates and optimizes the software and hardware elements of the chip, which can help companies that want to integrate the chip in the next-generation design to reduce the workload of engineering technology. When transitioning to new solutions, old customers can also reuse software investments in existing CSR Bluetooth and Wi-Fi solutions to enhance their existing designs. The hardware components required for the CSRC9300 have also been streamlined, which can greatly save costs. The CSRC9300 can have both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functions, and it can also provide a Wi-Fi-only variant through the same automotive-grade package, thus achieving a single and flexible solution for designers.

Other functional characteristics of the product:

· The Wi-Fi subsystem on the CSRC9300 allows customers to flexibly modify the Wi-Fi operation of their systems through RAM firmware images

· Support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, providing customers with greater flexibility in managing their own car wireless network

· Excellent Wi-Fi throughput performance

· Bluetooth and Wi-Fi coexist, specially tailored for vehicle usage

· Important auto platforms such as Linux, Windows AutomoTIve, QNX and Android all support CSRC9300

CSRC9300 engineering samples are now available.

Editor's note:

CSR showcased its automotive product portfolio, including CSRC9300, at booth 65 of the Detroit IOV Conference at the end of 2013. The company will also showcase enhancements to its SiRFatlasVI â„¢ and SiRFprimaII â„¢ infotainment platforms, which can support many emerging applications, such as 3D navigation, and wireless audio streaming and control.
