Beckhoff further refines EtherCAT technology to integrate ultra-high speed communication and power systems in one cable

With the introduction of EtherCATP, Beckhoff has further improved its EtherCAT technology, which has become a global standard. EtherCATP integrates ultra-high-speed EtherCAT communications with 24V power for systems and peripherals - optionally with additional power supplies. This means that single cable automation (OCA) can now also be implemented at the field level so that machines or other devices can be connected in a plug-and-play manner from 24V sensors to 600V drives without a control cabinet.

EtherCATP integrates the 24VDC power supply for the EtherCATP slave and the connected sensors and actuators into a 4-core standard Ethernet cable. US (system and sensor power supply) and UP (actuator peripheral voltage) are electrically isolated from each other and can supply up to 3A of current to the connected components, respectively.

With EtherCATP, the US and UP currents are fed directly into the wires of the 100Mbit/s cable, enabling a very economical and compact connection. This makes the EtherCATP bus ideal for sensor, actuator and measurement technology components, with the advantage of being able to connect small I/O stations to the terminal box and to connect distributed I/O components. Beckhoff developed a dedicated M8 connector for the EtherCATP. Its mechanical coding prevents it from being confused with the connectors of standard EtherCAT slaves.
