LuminAR ’s current prototype uses Qualcomm ’s Snapdragon processor, which is commonly used in smartphones and tablets. Linde and colleagues are trying to use the customized Linux operating system and the improved version of Google Android as the operating platform of LuminAR.

Early LuminAR prototypes also included a mechanical arm to support incandescent lamps. But Linde and colleagues are currently focusing on improving the LuminAR version without the robotic arm. Linde pointed out that this design can reduce costs and operational complexity, while also making this technology more popular.
